RSS Ticker (finally) updated to 1.9

I’ve finally gotten around to updating RSS Ticker. Among other things like new locales and code optimization, this version includes a rewrite of the options dialog and its related code, so any reported bugs related to the Options dialog should be fixed now. This includes the known incompatibility with the All-in-One Sidebar extension.

You can download the latest version of RSS Ticker 1.9 from the RSS Ticker homepage.

On a related note: I originally wrote RSS Ticker so that I could use Firefox’s Live Bookmarks to manage my feeds but still have an easy way to see new items from a small number of feeds. Since then, the number of feeds I follow has grown, and the ticker interface has become too restrictive for me. If this sounds like you, you might want to check out my new extension called Feedbar. It uses your Live Bookmarks for feed management like RSS Ticker, but it displays the new items in a sidebar, so it’s easier to scan through a large number of feeds.

  1. Seems like even though I click “mark all as read”, every time I open the browser, the same old feeds keep showing up. I do have the “hide items I’ve already read” selected.

    Can anyone advise?

  2. no clue,

sorry. i have a request though, one i’ve tried to fix myself(*blush*, yeah i even snuck into rss ticker’s code to try &figure it out). and i’m sorry for posting here and emailing you about this. its just that i’ve switched to using firefox3’s alphas &nightly builds and it seems that they’ve changed how they store or grant access to its live bookmarks. anyways, even though its still a ways off i’d love to see rss ticker get updated for firefox3(http://www.mozilla.org/projects/granparadiso/). a huge thnx if you could get it work. i just totally love this extension.

    Hi there,
Just writing as I seem to be having trouble with the rss ticker addon. I can’t seem to be able to add or remove any of the feeds in my “manage feed section”ť. The only options are “disable”ť and “śenable”ť.”

FYI, I’m having the same problem as Matt2h on
    http://www.chrisfinke.com/addons/rss-ticker/:

“MY RSS ticker.. it’ll start skipping real fast through certain feeds.. those with not a lot of items in them I think. I wish it would scroll through them as smoothly as it scrolls through everything else, but it suddenly gets choppy and skips really quickly through those feeds. Putting it on “randomize” solves the problem.. but I’d prefer to have my ticker display items grouped by feed.. it would be more thematic and consistent that way. I don’t know what I could do.. short of some kind of add-on or reinstall.. to solve this problem.”

    thank you!

Great addon, just one suggestion: Add a delay for RSS checks at startup.
i.e. When firefox starts, wait 60 seconds before checking the RSS feeds for new items.
