Plain Text Links

Tired of copying and pasting URLs from blogs or forums where someone didn't make a real link?

Plain Text Links is an extension for Firefox that lets you right click on URLs in plain text and open them as if they were real HTML links.

Select a link, right-click, and click on the "Open Selected URL" menu item. You can Ctrl+click or middle-click the menu item to open the link in a new tab, or shift+click the link to open it in a new window.

  • Automatically fixes URLs, including handling of common obfuscations such as "hxxp://"
  • Correctly handles URLs surrounded by quotes or parentheses, and URLs at the end of a sentence containing a trailing period
  • Does not send a referrer header for visited links

Is this same as "Plain Text Links" by Ted Mielczarek? What's the difference? I used to use Ted Mielczarek's one but it stopped working with newer versions and he has stopped updating (although I can edit the version number in install.rdf and make it work.)

It is the same one; I've taken over the extension for Ted and will be updating it and fixing bugs to keep it working with the new versions of Firefox.

This extension updated itself on my PC and one other that I use - much to my surprise as I've been using it by over-riding the compatibility check and it's been fine...

    BUT:
On both machines I got a virus/trojan warning and they have different AV programs.

The warning seemed to center upon a page the update caused to be displayed after, and it did not resemble this page in any way.

Do you have any explanation of how this may have happened ?

    Thanks,

    mark

Hello, i must uninstall your add-on, because now it don't work with input field (or textarea). On websites https: / / http://www.ztunnel.com / i want (sometimes) to open the link in the input field in a new tab or in the same tab. I don't want select the full link for it to work = mouseover on the link, mouse right clic, item open select url and go. Thank you. This applies to several other add-ons and i have several add-ons installed ! Thank you.

Great Extension!!! Thanks a lot Christopher!!!

The only thing that I miss in your extension is the option to open text links in a new tab without holding ctrl button!

Is there any hack to change the default behavior???

    Hello,

Plain Text Links Version 1.0.1 and earlier with Firefox 3.6 on XPSP3 = thank you for your work, this add-on is very convenient for me, can i tell you that i can not live without your add-on on the web.

Since some versions, i can no longer open links that are in text entry fields for url. I would like to please return this functionality, but could you ensure that we can double-click on the link to open it without having to select it completely in an input field or in the textarea and without having to use the right click context menu. Thank you very much if you can provide these much needed improvements.

    It's a great add-on ! Thank you :-)
